Some images from Beverley Food Fayre, which we visited today. Lots of free samples of cheese, chutney and breads, but you had to fight for them, it was very busy.

Oh, my goodness! You are such a tease! How I wish I could go.
That crawfish, or lobster pie is interesting...do tell more on that...
I was right. Yes, technically we call them crayfish too, but sometimes crawfish, and most often...crawdaddies! We cooked them over the campfire in a bucket when I was a kid, fresh from the river...me, and the crawdaddies...but only they got boiled...then some melted butter and down the hatch! Never in a pie!
Stargazy? wtf? 'cos they gaze upward? Some of them? What else is in that pie? it's just curiouser and curiouser.
Ok Cindra here goes, the dish is a traditional Cornish dish, originally made with sardines (Pilchards) and 4/5 other types of fish. Stargazy, as you correctly guessed because they are looking skywards. The dish was recently popularised on a TV programme were a chef re-invented it using crayfish and rabbit as the main ingredients, and no, me and wifey didn't have any of it.
I am so glad to hear you and Tina didnt eat any of that last dish.....I love the picture of you and Tina....you have a lovely wife Bazaa. Happy to see that you two are co blogging b/c I missed hearing from Tina.
The only seafood I eat is shrimp....and I prefer to think they didnt come out of the bottom of the ocean..Id rather just pretend they came from the grocery store! lol
Cindra, Tina and I went veggie about 10 years ago, however due to various health reasons we started eating fish about 5 years ago, you can call us piscatereans if you like.
You two...I love seeing both yer faces! Tom is in Saudi as you know, and we were just chatting and I sent him to look at your blog and that damned pie! He said he thought that crawdads were native to our continent...I said I'd never thought about it. I said maybe Christopher fucking Columbus brought em' over when he wiped out an entire civilization...um, 'scuse my wrath...anyway...hmmm...curiouser and curiouser again...crayfish are indigenous to where? I wonder.
Oh, and we decided that we really are going to use all these frequent flyer miles he's racking up to come see our parallel universe family in Hull...but when?
Ok Cindra listen up!, there are over 500 species of Crawfish of which over half are native to North America, but they do occur naturally in Britain as well as places like New Zealand. However the odds are the ones we saw were probably farmed. Anyway, you're coming to Hull? wow, we'll look forward to that.
You know, you only just reinforced our parallel universe in that you are just as obsessive and inquisitive as hubby and myself...we MUST find the answer and do the research (well, so long as we can do it via internet in the comfort of our home with a pint in our hand) and you two did same...I love it! And you said, "Listen up!'
Oh, my ears are perked.
Yes. We wish to come to the "greater" london area. So long as wifey doesn't think I'm a stalker.
Boy. I sure didn't know that. What the hell you been doin' with 'em, Bazza. Crap. The Creoles have built a whole reputation on them critters. Not the English. Oh, NOOOOOOOOOOOO.

That lobster pie has a bit too much shell in it for my taste!
Its proper name is "Stargazy Pie" and the critters are Crayfish.

Ew, ew, ew. Thanks for filling me in on that. My dad made us eat our bunnies when we were little. The crawdaddies, I liked. The bunnies, not so much.
I have very strong vegetarian tendencies...maybe that's why.
Very interesting stuff! Thanks.
Are you two veggie?
We've been making acceptions for seafood.
