The power of the press

Some of you will know I work in complaints, some of you won't. One of the most common things complainants say to me is "if this doesn't get sorted I'm going to the press", and yet this has never happened. I've often wondered if it's an idle threat or whether they do and the press tells them to bugger off!

I only made such a threat once, and I meant it. I didn't have to go to the press though, they sorted it out. Sorry. I'm of now use to you!

If you don't give us all the juicy complaint details here, I'm going to the press!

I have thought of going to the press but never threatened.

I've complained before. But I've never said that. Personally I wouldn't because I have learned that by being nice but firm I get better attention. Plus I have learned to pick my battles. Some things are not really worth fighting over.
